Recipe for Tomato Sauce to be used for other recipes

Recipe for Tomato Sauce:


  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  4. Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until it is smooth, or transfer it to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  5. Use the sauce immediately, or let it cool and store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
